Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, the head of the STC, had previously announced that all parties had reached an agreement on the formation of the government. “Abdulmalik and five ministers returned to Aden in implementation of the Riyadh agreement,” a government source said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi announced on Friday the formation of the power-sharing government, in line with the Riyadh agreement signed last year with the Southern Transitional Council. Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik and his ministers returned to the port city of Aden on Monday as part of a power-sharing agreement with southern separatists. “All the parties are winners with the agreement, and the only loser is the Houthis,” Mr. Al Homaidi said. Distrust between the allies is a headache for Saudi Arabia`s regional power train, which remains focused on fighting the Houthis, who are in harmony with Riyadh`s arch-enemy, Iran. The Riyadh agreement established a framework for resolving the dispute between Hadi`s government and the STC over southern control, which had escalated into military clashes in August 2019. The government has also been at war with Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who control Sanaa, since 2014. “Signing the agreement, which is the fruit of long and relentless efforts exerted by our brothers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will be a turning point in the battle against the Houthi militia and a new stage towards strengthening relations between the Arab Coalition and the STC,” said Nizar Haitham, spokesman for the STC. It is a power-sharing agreement signed in Riyadh on 5 November 2019 between Yemen`s legitimate government led by President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

A power struggle between two anti-Houthi coalition allies had resulted in armed clashes. Under the aegis of Saudi Arabia, the two sides agreed to share power under a unity government. The agreement, which was officially sealed at a signing ceremony in Riyadh on Tuesday, is not concrete, but it is expected to split the ministries equally between the UN-backed abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi`s government and supporters of the president of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarus al-Zoubaidi. Yemen`s internationally recognized government signed a Saudi-brokered power-sharing deal with southern separatists Tuesday aimed to end a conflict simmering within the country`s civil war. The signature was broadcast on Saudi state television, which did not disclose details of the agreement. Donald Trump, who rarely speaks about Yemen`s civil war, hailed the deal as “a very good start,” adding: “Please, everyone is working hard to get a final deal.” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman participated in Riyadh on Tuesday in the signing of a power-sharing agreement between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council. “The Riyadh agreement represents a real chance for peace in the South… From this point of view, the Council will remain a strategic partner with Saudi Arabia and the Arab coalition countries on various issues and related issues, until all common interests and objectives are achieved and guaranteed,” he said.
